About our LOGO

Harvesting Light Slider LogoFor many years, we have had a base in the town of Lijiang, in the Chinese Province of Yunnan. There has been an ancient town here for over 800 years, the traditional wood and stone buildings even surviving a devastating earthquake in 1996.

The local ethnic minority are the Naxi, and they have a fascinating language and culture, called the Dongba. The pictographic language is colorful and literal, and we consulted with a local teacher to design a Dongba Symbol that represents Harvesting Light.

The figure is actually stretching his legs, a reflection that he may have been sitting for some time waiting for the Available Light to be right for his images.

An Introduction to Photographing Landscapes at Night  is a short, but content rich overview of the essential tools and techniques required to start a journey into shooting after sunset.

This is the little brother to Seeing the Unseen, which is a much more thorough and comprehensive book on the subject of Landscape Photography at Night.
